What makes us so different from other gyms? In gyms and health clubs throughout the world the typical workout consists of isolation movements and extended aerobic sessions. The fitness community from trainers to the magazines has the exercising public believing that lateral raises, curls, leg extensions, sit-ups and the like combined with 20-40 minute stints on the stationary bike or treadmill are going to lead to some kind of great fitness.
So let’s say you’ve belonged to a commercial gym. Maybe you’ve been there for 2 years. You see the same people every day. You never talk to them. After 2 years you notice that they all look basically the same as the first day you ever saw them, despite the fact that they spend at least an hour a day on the elliptical while reading a magazine or talking on their cell phones. And worst of all, these gyms make money when you DON’T come and they secretly hope you don’t.
We are the antithesis of a commercial gym. We WANT you to come. When our athletes attend regularly it builds a community and support system that is critical to the success our gym. Unlike the headphones on, no eye contact interaction, CrossFit is based on a team workout structure. All participants in each class warm-up together, do skill work, perform the workout of the day and cool down together. As a team, as a family, as a unit, we start and end the workout together. Pushing, encouraging, and helping each other each step of the way.
At CrossFit Cove we work with compound movements and shorter high intensity cardiovascular sessions. We replace lateral raises with the push-presses, curls with pull-ups, and leg extensions with squats. This is because compound functional movements performed at high intensity is radically more effective at eliciting nearly any desired fitness result.
