As we work our way through this COVID-19 world, we have been refining our programming, coaching, and safety protocols as a gym. We are continuing to refine things even now but as of right now we feel confident to expand our class sizes of 17 members. To continue keep our safe distancing protocols, we are going to expand our working area to the garage doors. For tomorrow’s workout we actually put out 21 stations, knowing only 17 can be used and each one is distanced more than 9 feet apart. To give you a sense of the spacing, we included a video of our setup for the classroom for tomorrow.
We know how important strengthening our immune systems in today’s world and safely expanding class sizes will allow more of our members to be able to make the classes that work for them. We ask that you continue to follow the safety protocols we have established and be understanding of the needs all the athletes of the Cove. This gym is all about supporting one another and we see that every day with our classes.
Virtually, enjoy a quick and challenging workout with Coach Maria! This week, we get to work out with her at the beach so try getting outside and soaking up the sun while we still have the good weather. Below is the WOD. Have fun, hopefully, in the sun 😉

Although the gym is focused around sweat and fitness, some have found love inside the four walls that make up the Cove. We want to wish congratulations to Coach John and Tracey Perrick on their wonderful wedding day this past weekend. These two are such pillars to the community and it is no surprise that they have found each other. We love you both and so excited for you guys in your future journey together. We love you guys!
We want to thank everyone who came to the First Annual CoveToberfest celebration this past Friday! It was so nice to see so many people making new friends, connecting with old ones and capturing a glimpse of what community really feels like here at the Cove (or rather, just outside the Cove). Community is what makes this place so special and we’re thankful we were able to have a moment like this in crazy times like these.
We also want to thank everyone for contributing so much great food and drink! And a huge shout out to Allie Bradley for taking the lead in planning the event — without her help it would not have been possible! So many pitched in all night, but a special thanks to Coach Joel, Peter, and Ladi who helped set up everything outside. As they say, it takes a village!
We will be posting some pictures of the event on our Facebook page, Cove the Club.
Despite the tumultuous year CrossFit has had, we know many of you follow the CrossFit Games — and you’re likely aware of the challenges they’ve had trying to narrow the field for the “Fittest Athletes on Earth” title with new leadership during a global pandemic. Two weeks ago CrossFit did an online competition (drawing from the top CrossFit athletes in the world) to determine the top five male and female athletes that would later compete at the “Games” on October 19th in a reimagined version of the event.
Similar to the Open, CrossFit specifically designed a number of these CrossFit Games qualifier workouts so that athletes from gyms around the world stack up against the best in the world. One in particular, called “Friendly Fran” became an instant fan favorite as it is a play on the classic CrossFit benchmark workout. We have in a bit of a mini-front squat/thruster cycle as of of late in preparation for this test and we are excited to see how people do. Looking forward to a great workout at the Cove tomorrow. While we might not be the top five in the world, we can at least play in the sandbox as if we are! As always, be safe and have fun!
On Friday, October 2nd we’ll get together for our first annual Cove-Toberfest! Starting at 5:30pm we’ll be grilling brats, having some libations and enjoying each other’s company (socially distanced and outside, of course!). We’ll need your help in making it happen, so check out the below to see how you can help!
It’s been about six weeks since the Governor’s new mask mandate went into effect and we are thrilled that so many athletes feel safe and protected while at the Cove. But as time passes, it’s easy to get lax with protocols so we wanted to remind everyone of how the state laws are being applied inside the gym (listed below).
Our only ‘new’ asks are that you clear your station as soon as possible to get ready for the next class. We LOVE socialization (safely, of course) after class, but clear your gear and space so the next athlete has a dry and ready spot!
And on the socializing front, do your best not to congregate around the equipment as we are noticing some congestion around the plate stacks and bars.Once you put your things away, then enjoy each other’s company!Masks on if inside, but get outside and hang for a bit.We put the green chairs right by the garage doors for easy outside access — plus we have 20 black chairs by the coach’s lockers.
We are so grateful for your efforts and understanding — and remember that we are all in this together!
Enter the gym from the front with a mask and wash your hands or sanitize upon arrival.
You will find your station on the floor and retrieve all of your equipment (with your mask on). Try to get as much as you think you will need for the workout (weight variations and such) to eliminate foot traffic once you are set up.
Put on your mask to walk the floor to bathrooms, in public areas or retrieve items you might still need if you leave your station.
Once class starts and you start moving, you can remove the mask if it impedes your breathing or creates discomfort. Everyone will have a different tolerance here, so do what works best for YOU. The last thing we want is an injury from dizziness or lightheadedness.
As your coaches, we will our best to keep our faces covered but may need to remove to allow for enough volume while instruction or for our athletes who are hard of hearing (we have several). We will do our best to maintain double separation while doing so.
Continue to follow the expected clean up procedure. Each of us will need to wipe each piece of equipment and use the towels as ‘mittens’ to return your gear back to its place. Towels are already folded in ‘two packs’ and disinfectant sprays are at each cleanup station.
Continue to bring a yoga mat daily. Most body contact with the floor should be on your mat… but please mop up any sweat angels that extend beyond your mat!
For the past three months we have been running 3 outdoor classes a week to help those people that are not comfortable with our indoor offering. It has given us a chance to ensure our systems are in place and get people more accustomed to our new protocols. We have seen we are averaging 1/2 a member per outdoor class and we are going to cancel them. We hope you understand, as that it doesn’t make sense for us to run a class that doesn’t have enough attendance to support it.
