DO YOU “LIKE” US?!
We hoping that’s an emphatic “yes”, but we also ask this in the virtual sense!  We post a lot of great pictures on the Cove Instagram and FaceBook pages and we need your help:

Clearly, the more likes we get the more people get to see how awesome we are.  If you haven’t stretched outside the “Cove Club”, just click on the icons on the CrossFitCove.com main page:

BUT we also need your help in collecting content!  So many of you snap awesome pics and take great videos while you’re at the Cove and (if you’re okay with it) we’d love to use some of them!  You can email them to Brooke HERE or direct message her on FB!

EMBARRASSING CHILDHOOD PHOTOS NEEDED!

As you might have noticed, there are some WEIRD pics of our athletes up on Wodify!  A few people suggested we swap our profile pictures for embarrassing childhood photos — and of course we loved the idea!

So update your profiles people!  Just go under “my profile” or “settings” and update the photo. And if you can, try and find an outfit worse that this one (yes, Brian Anglim in his Sunday finest!)

LABOR DAY HERO WOD AND BBQ
MONDAY (Labor Day) we will ring in the holiday with a Hero WOD with two classes at 10AM and 11AM only. Following the 11AM workout, feel free to bring some post-WOD “pot luck” drinks or snacks and hang around. We will put up a sign up sheet on the white board by the Wodify station so we know who’s bringing what (we’ll provide some burgers and dogs). If you can’t stick around after (boo!) just come on in for a great WOD and get in a good sweat.

Please note we will have sitter coverage for the 10am class only.  Spots will be limited so please email us at marina@cove-fitness.com to hold a spot for your child.  Children are MORE than welcome to come to the 11a and potluck BBQ, but must be under adult supervision!
There will be NO 6-Week Challenge class that Monday night, but EVERYONE is welcome to come!  We will have a special 4:30p and 7:45p Tuesday class for any guys from the Challenge who can’t make it on Monday.

CROSSFIT FAMILY CLASSES!

Thanks to everyone for the feedback on CrossFit Family class times.  While Saturday got a few “yays”, Sunday got more.  But we want to find something that works for everyone, so here’s the schedule!  To be respectful of our athletes that utilize open gym hours and because we have classes on Saturday (and so we can take over the whole space), we are excited to announce our next series of classes will run at NOON on the following dates:

SUNDAY, September 18th at Noon SATURDAY, September 24th at Noon SUNDAY, October 2nd at Noon

As a reminder, these workouts are designed as “partner WODs” where you work out with your child.  If you have more than one child, that’s ok… we can work in teams of three (or feel free to bring another adult partner).  We typically do fun warmups, some skill work, a work out and a game.  While you will get a sweat in, it won’t come with the same “pain cave” feeling of a regular METCON.

Ideal ages for our ‘lil beasts is 5 – 10… but if you think your older or younger one will enjoy it, great!  Since it is Partner WOD, you’ll be able to assist (or challenge) your child as appropriate for THEM!

WEDNESDAY WINS!

Each Wednesday we like to celebrate the victories of our athletes — big or small. And we love when some stretches outside their comfort zone and tries something NEW.  No matter how scary or intimidating it may seem.  This week we want to feature Julie J. who has been CrossFitting with us from just about the very beginning and has been growing in so many ways.

One of the great things about CrossFit is that it exposes you to so many different movements and modalities. We run, we jump,we lift, we swing, we row, and you we usually finish collapsed on the ground happily in a pool of sweat. As we got exposed to all these different movements and exercise modalities we often get drawn to one that is just made for us.

Julie learned a love for the barbell and particularly Olympic Lifting. Who doesn’t love that feeling of explosively cleaning a barbell or the victorious moment when you stand it overhead. Julie took it to the next level by signing up for the Lorton Strength Classic (with our very own Allie B.) for her first competitive Olympic lifting meet. She worked diligently before, after, and in place of class with the special help of Coach Chris — who also enlisted the help of Piper as a critical eye.

All that hard work paid off as she took first place in her division at the meet. When Julie started her journey with CrossFit we don’t think she thought it would lead her to a world where she would throw barbells over our heads and catch them. It certainly is a scary prospect when we start this program but doing these crazy these are a common occurrence at the box. And it is those same scary moments that make us better everyday.  And in Julie’s case, it led her to atop the podium!
