HANDSTAND PUSHUP CLINIC
In the CrossFit world, there are so many high-level skills and exercises, it can often be overwhelming to try to learn them all. Sometimes you need to step back and look to focus on a couple. In an effort to provide some extra coaching for a specific movement.
We are excited to announce that Coach John is going to be starting some movement clinics throughout the year. Your vote for handstand pushups was heard loud and clear and we are excited to announce that we will be holding a Handstand Pushup clinic on March 7th from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM.

THE 2021 CROSSFIT OPEN AT THE COVE
- 2021 will be a three-week open (reduced from 5 to 3). CrossFit HQ felt a five-week Open could be a burden on athletes and affiliates. It may or may not be a model they hold going forward, but they’ve said they will use it as a learning experience.
- A “Foundations Division” is added this year due to affiliate feedback and the desire to increase the inclusivity of the event. There will be scaling guidances, but if further scaling is needed, you will be able to do that and still “compete”. They are even adding options for at-home athletes who don’t have equipment.
- Workouts will still need to be judged and validated for the Open. But the mechanism to do this has broadened to include video submission, Zoom/FaceTime judging and in-person options. At the Cove, we build a judge into your Friday workout if you are registered so it’s a no-brainer!
THE COVE HOSTING CROSSFIT LEVEL II SEMINAR
We hope everyone had a great weekend and survived the ice and cold. We are back at it on Monday with another week of amazing workouts.
The week will end differently, however, as the gym will have modified hours this upcoming weekend (February 20th and 21st). As you know, we recently renewed our affiliation with CrossFit and we are hosting their next L2 (advanced coaching) seminar. We are hoping to build a strong relationship with CrossFit to leverage their training expertise for our coaches in all aspects including Level I, Level II, and specialty courses (gymnastics, weightlifting, etc). Obviously, we want minimal impact on you and these events will selective and infrequent.
In addition to this, there are some other great updates that are validating our decision to be part of CrossFit again. There are new and exciting changes to the Open (more coming on this in the next few days!), we have more insight into the work the Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity committee is doing and we have been contacted by our new CrossFit District Representative who is tasked for getting feedback from/working with regional affiliates. These are the positive changes we are craving and happy to see action.
