Friday’s WOD
6,000 lbs, 12 pallets, and Truck Climbs for Time
We knew that opening a gym would be filled with defining days and moments. This past Friday hit the mark. We were expecting our huge equipment order in from Rogue but when Friday afternoon rolled around UPS called and said they couldn’t deliver as the weight of the delivery was too heavy. They instead had to change shipment date to Wednesday. This was devastating news to as the weekend was going to be the time to really prep the Cove for our opening in February. We called UPS to see if there is anything they could do and the customer service rep said (almost sarcastically) that we could go to the UPS freight center and pick up the 6,000lb order on 12 pallets ourselves. We looked at each other and said “sure!” We rented the largest U-Hual we could get (a tank of a truck that drove beautifully in Friday’s snow/slush storm) and hustled our way to get our gear. The people at UPS were great helping us load the truck with their army of equipment. And it actually looked easy with a fork lift. But with each massive pallet that got dropped into our truck the reality of hauling 6,000 pounds of equipment into the Cove without that lift become more apparent. The night turned out to be a blast with music, laughter, and lifting. We hauled huge boxes and crates over our loading dock and did so using the lessons of functional movement we received from years of CrossFit training. We deadlifted, cleaned, and farmer carried our 6000 lbs of equipment for time (about a 2 1/2 hour wod). There was the Monster Rig (it really is very appropriately called a monster rig), the GHD’s, barbells, weight stacks and wonderfully light boxes of ab mats. Talking about the experience the next morning we came to the realization that CrossFit had prepared us for this moment. CrossFit is designed to prepare you for the unexpected demands of life. We didn’t know this was going to happen, but yet we were prepared. And the best part was that we weren’t even sore the next day. Bring on the next challenge! The MONSTER RIG. It’s heavier than it looks!
