This workout is devilish in it’s simplicity. Going from 1 to 10 and back on down, we are looking at 100 burpees and 100 deadlifts so excellent technique and core engagement are critical.
We will be keeping the gym open to 8:30 PM on Friday night to enjoy a beverage with your fellow Covies and there is talk of going out afterwards.
Congratulations to everyone who did 22.1 this week as part of the Open (or in regular class). Nearly half of our membership signed up this year and we are so excited to see all the many amazing performances. For those of you who didn’t sign up (and did the workout) we hope you got a glimpse of what the CrossFit Open is about and why we love it so much.
Yes, technically it’s a ‘competition’. But it’s so much more than that. It’s a chance to be a part of global community doing the same workout with the same shared suffering (and joy!). It’s a chance to push a bit harder than normal because you have skin in the game (even if it’s only a $20 entrance fee!). It’s a chance to dial in your movement with higher standards and greater accountability with a judge tracking your reps. It’s also a season of so many “wins”. And we love to celebrate ALL of them! While they are almost endless, here are a few Covie wins and firsts:
– Participation in their first Open ever. – RX’ing their first workout ever. – RX’ing their first OPEN workout! – Judging for the first time. – Being judged for the first time. – Picking up a dumbbell heavier than they’ve ever picked up (and snatching it countless times) – Some had never been upside down before Friday. – And almost all improved their handstand walks dramatically from last year’s Open! – New connections and friendships were made. – And we crushed the after-party.
If you did the workout on Friday and did not register for the Open, you still can! Just go to games.crossfit.com and sign up by Monday at 8p. If you did register and have not yet input your scores, you must do that by Monday @ 8p as well so we can verify it. Again, it’s all on the Games app and site! DO NOT FORGET!

Finally, we will be doing social events every Friday evening for the Open. This week we will be going to Frisco Tap House. It’s close to the gym and we are looking to get there between 7:30 PM and 8 PM to celebrate!
We currently have 34 athletes signed up for the Open and are looking for some more. Regardless if you are signed up or not, look forward to some fun filled Friday’s at the Cove.
The CrossFit Open is coming! Yep, starting on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022 (for three weeks), CrossFit athletes everywhere have the chance to challenge themselves and feel the thrill of “competing” on a global scale.
Yes, technically it “competition” as it is a qualifier for the CrossFit Games but for most of us, it’s about discovering something about yourself. But sometimes the seemingly impossible is actually possible!
More than anything, it is community at its finest. And ask ANYONE who’s done it at the Cove — the feeling is just magical. Next level cheering and celebrating and the ultimate reminder of why we all do this crazy thing called CrossFit. And while we are still working on details given Covid restrictions at the gym, there WILL be post-WOD shenanigans on Friday nights (even if off campus)!
For those who haven’t done it before, each Thursday night at 8p CrossFit releases the workout. Every Friday we do that workout at the Cove (as the daily WOD), so even if you don’t register, you’ll be doing the Open workouts anyway. There is an option for EVERYONE regardless of your fitness level. And the $20 registration fee (that goes to CF, not us) gives that extra feeling of accountability and being part of something epic!
We are beyond bummed to post this but we are POSTPONING (not canceling!) the Anniversary Bash in February and the Women’s Self Defense Seminar this weekend. If you are a glass half full person and love anagrams or word games, you’ll see that “no stop”, “soon” and “dope” are all words that can come from “postponed”. And the party will be ALL those things! Regarding the self-defense seminar this weekend, one of our generous volunteer instructors (Maryann Foxwell) has to abide by new Covid restrictions at work that limits her exposures outside the workplace — so taking the risk of volunteer work in a group setting is something she just can’t do right now (and we absolutely understand!). When numbers calm down and she has more flexibility it will be back on the books! Thank you all for understanding!
